Isabella White

Dawn Land Dreams

Isabella White is a mixed L’nu woman and multidisciplinary artist from Three Rivers, Ktaqmkuk. Belonging to a large family with deep roots in Nujio'qonik, Isabella now lives in Elmastukwek.

Her practice is sustained by intergenerational care and reciprocity. She relies on good relations to harvest and gather materials. Isabella bark-tans leather, sews, beads, and paints to create connections. She learned valuable skills such as sewing from her grandmother, mother, and aunts. Her grandfather is her most influential teacher and inspiration. Isabella graduated from NSCAD University with a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Fine Arts in 2021. Through the Reviving Mi’kmaw Arts Mentorship Program,

Isabella apprenticed with Nicole Travers of Blomidon Beadwork - Nicole is a cultural carrier, hide tanner, and talented artist. Work made during this mentorship traveled across the island in a group exhibition, visiting The Rooms in St. John’s. With the Support of Quidi Vidi Artisan Studios and their Indigenous Business Development Program, Isabella began Dawn Land Dreams. A creative initiative rooted in mindful relationships with kin, community, place, and M’sit No’kmaq. Isabella continues to learn and create through mentorship, community volunteering, and residency participation.
